As the 2016 Major League Baseball season comes to a close, the top performers throughout the game will soon be celebrated for their accomplishments. Say what you will about the voting and evaluation processes, but these awards are still tremendous honors.
Here are our predictions for who should and who will take home the upcoming major awards* (MVP, Cy Young, Rookie of the Year, Manager of the Year) in each league.
*Note: we’ve passed on predicting the Comeback Player of the Year as it is a difficult one to peg down. There seem to be two types of winners – those who return from injury and those who return from ineffectiveness. Some players never falter but miss substantial time on the DL, others just play themselves into irrelevance before reemerging. The parameters for the award are even vaguer than the others. Who knows which guys should or will win? For what it’s worth, it would be nice to see Tommy Joseph get a nod for overcoming his concussion issues and even making it to the bigs.
