Atlanta Braves: Only three homegrown players on projected 25-man roster

Entering 2017, the Atlanta Braves find themselves in the curious situation of simultaneously having an elite farm system but hardly any homegrown players.

For an organization making such a conscious effort to build from within and develop young players, it almost doesn’t seem possible for the Braves to have such a dearth of homegrown talent. But it’s true. According to the projections over at Roster Resource, only three guys on the expected 25-man roster are products of the Atlanta farm system.

One position player. One starting pitcher. One reliever.

*Note: For the purposes of this exercise, we’re defining “homegrown” as only having played for one organization. Players who are drafted or signed by another team and traded while still prospects would not count.
